The exchanges of skills and training between the SYNPO company and the DiBEST of the University of Calabria (UNICAL) continue, experimenting with new solutions for the protection and conservation of underwater cultural heritage.
The project is focused on creating materials with antifouling properties specifically studied to safeguard underwater materials in seawater. It’s a challenging task!
Three doctoral students from the University of Calabria are working with Dr. Michal Novák from SYNPO’s adhesive Research and Development Department to improve further formulations developed in previous collaborations. During the secondments, the research was divided into two main parts:
a) the development of adhesives for underwater applications using materials capable of polymerizing underwater and adhering to marble and limestone surfaces;
b) evaluation of the effectiveness of coatings by evaluating dispersion and colourimetric changes.
Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting project!
